Customer Spotlight: City of San Pablo

Recently we worked with Jill Mercurio, Public Works Director for the City of San Pablo, to create custom Hawaiian shirts in honor of their award-winning team. She sent us such a lovely note about enjoying the shirts that we wanted to know more!  Jill graciously took the time to tell us more about their city:

What’s a day like at your office?

We are a small city near San Francisco that serves about 30,000 residents.  We open by 7:30 and stay open until 6 to provide better customer service to our community – but we take each Friday off (so that makes up for the long hours during the rest of the week!)  Because we provide a number of services, there is no typical day.  We have police, and we have recreation leaders.  We mow the parks, and work with our legislative bodies on new regulations. There is never a dull day – that’s for sure.

We purchased our custom Hawaiian shirts from Shop4Ties to celebrate winning a “Bay Area Top Workplace” award – which is based on job enjoyment/satisfaction of our staff.  We were thrilled that staff enjoys working together enough to get us ranked (even above the SF 49ers!)  Now we wear our shirts for various events, or just for casual days at the office!

Is there a certain event each year that everyone gets excited for?

Oh my, yes!  City Hall is the venue for the City Hall-oween event each year.  The various departments “compete” with themes and healthy activities for our youngest community members.  Last year more that 1600 people came through in two hours – it was amazing!

Any new construction or parks being implemented in the city that seems to be the talk of the town?

The City opened a new Multi Use Sports Park for organized teams, and we are looking at ways to improve our more casual parks for every day types of activities. We also completed a new branch library – converted from a drugstore, but now a jewel in the County’s public library system.  Now our staff looks forward to being able to move into a new City Hall in early 2020.

If someone has never visited San Pablo, what would you recommend to do?

Enjoy the many different restaurants from cultures all around the world!

What’s your favorite part of the city and why?

The City Hall Courtyard.  The separated buildings of City Hall surround a courtyard with a fountain, casual benches, and lovely plantings – certainly it is a very peaceful place that always surprises people who come into City Hall for the first time.

The team with their award and their City of San Pablo shirts!
