This month we’re featuring the Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers Power Electronics Society (IEEE PELS) as our customer spotlight! Donna Florek has been a pleasure to work with and we loved creating custom ties and scarves for their events.
Can you tell us more about your organization?
IEEE is the world’s largest technical professional organization dedicated to advancing technology for the benefit of humanity. The Power Electronics Society is one of the societies within the IEEE. Our members write papers for our journals, attend conferences that we sponsor, and volunteer their time to support this technology and it’s benefits for the world.
How long have you been apart of the society and what has your experience been like?
I have been with the IEEE for 18 years. I’ve developed many programs, but the ones that I’ve enjoyed working with the most are the Young Professional Program and Mentor Program. I now manage Event Planning and the Awards Program for our Society. Most of our members in Power Electronics are either entrepreneurs, Academic or Industry Professionals. We have many global conferences all over the world and publish journals on Power Electronics topics.
Do you have any upcoming conferences that you are excited about? If so, what?
I will be at the Applied Power Electronics Conference in Anaheim in March. It will be exciting to see our members again. Every year it is a reunion of some of the top electrical engineering professionals in the world.
Is there a favorite event or program that you or your team look forward to every year?
My team members work on many exciting events. There are so many events that focus on renewable and sustainable energy. This year our team is looking forward to the Empower A Billion Lives Global Competition Final. It is a very important program. IEEE Empower a Billion Lives is a global competition aimed at fostering innovation to develop solutions to electricity access. Solutions are expected to be scalable, regionally relevant, holistic, and leverage 21st century technologies with exponentially declining prices. My colleague Jane Celusak is Project Manager for this Program and planning the events taking place around the world!
