Twist Out Cancer provides psychosocial support to cancer survivors and their loved ones through creative arts programming. We are a global community that enables anyone touched by cancer to connect, create, support, and inspire.
Brushes with Cancer strategically matches artists with those touched by cancer to create unique pieces of artwork reflective of their journey. Over a period of 4 months, pairs will connect virtually and their relationships are guided and supported by Twist Out Cancer mentors with the intention of creating a support system for both the artist and inspiration. The program finishes on a high note with our signature celebratory art exhibition, gala and auction where the artwork is revealed for the first time.
Anna Feneis is a Colorado based independent abstract artist. She participated in the Brushes with Cancer Northeast Region 2021 program, resulting in a bold and vivacious piece of work. Her Brushes with Cancer piece is currently being displayed at the Old City Jewish Art Center in Philadelphia and was selected to be featured on our holiday preorder mask. As I was creating this piece for Abby, full of bright and bold colors to match her personality, the paint began taking on a new life. Every time I stepped back to observe, something would draw me back in as if it was saying, “you are not finished yet.” As with most things in life, including a devastating cancer diagnosis, you have to learn to trust the process. I knew my hands and the paint would create something that represented her.
From the moment I met Abby I realized she was a warrior. “I knew I would not let cancer take me down,” she said to me. Her journey with treatment throughout a pandemic was arduous and ill-timed, however, she remained positive and determined to triumph. On top of tackling her own diagnosis, Abby has worked tirelessly to educate and caution women on the importance of advanced screening for the BRCA gene mutation. On her website, where she raises money for people in need of genetic screening, she said: “I will fight for the woman who wants a genetic screening kit but can’t afford it. Or the woman who wants screening because she believes she is high risk. I will fight for all of you and your children because nobody should have to wait for cancer to find them first.”
On the final day of painting I brought the canvas outside of my home in Colorado. The breeze was blowing and the mountains were energetically green. As I stepped back one final time, I saw it: an elephant. Elephants are revered as a symbol of good luck, a destroyer of evil, and a remover of obstacles. In art, oftentimes elephants are depicted in battle – charging head first into the opposition. They are a symbol of strength, compassion, and wisdom. All of the qualities that Abby possesses.
The brave colors throughout the painting are a reflection of her tenacity, her passion for her family, and her all around fun and fiery spirit. Like an elephant, Abby continues to amaze and enchant the people in her life. I am blessed to be one of them.

Survivor/thriver of triple negative breast cancer
Twist on Cancer: The initial diagnosis of cancer was terrifying, but the lessons that cancer taught me have made me a better person and the happiest I have ever been. My twist on cancer came once I got started with treatment, as I was gaining so many new perspectives on life. I went from being depressed about my diagnosis and the unknown to having a positive attitude, high energy and lots of optimism about my future. While on my cancer journey, I not only learned so much about myself, but for the first time, I appreciated and loved every ounce of me. Life certainly has lots of twists and turns, but I am thankful that cancer gave me the opportunity to be the best version of myself today and always.

Masks have a 100 piece minimum order. Your group must meet the Minimum Order Quantity for this preorder campaign to move into production. If the MOQ is not met, your order will be cancelled and your card will not be charged.
Turnaround time
Once the preorder closes, you’ll receive your order within 5-6 weeks.
Your payment will be charged once the preorder is closed on October 16th, as long as the minimum order quantity is reached. Orders generally ship 5-6 weeks after preorder closes.
Please note that due to the complexity of the preorder checkout process, an order may contain only one preorder product type, and no other products, preorder or otherwise.

Adult masks recommended for ages 11+, one size fits most. Masks include adjustable earloops and nose-wires.
Kids masks recommended for ages 5-11. Masks include adjustable earloops and nose-wires.
Toddler masks recommended for ages 2-4. Masks include adjustable earloops and nose-wires.
Machine wash on gentle cycle or hand wash on warm and tumble dry on low or lay flat to dry. No bleach.
